World Literature 2020-2021-Period 5 Assignments

What do  you now know that you did not know before entering this class? 


Create a slideshow, a google doc, a video or whatever you'd like to create to illustrate your learning. 


It does not have to be long or fancy--just thoughtful.

How has reading this book affected you? What have you learned? How has your perspective evolved?

Your deliverable can be whatever you'd like this month. Here are some suggestions:
1. Same written review we've been doing
2. Flipgrid video review or even a REEL (30 seconds)
3. Google slides (5 slides that review your choice this month.
4. Podcast type audio file where you review your choice.
5. Any type of graphic you'd like

You can present your review of your enrichment in whatever form you decide. Hopefully, this will make it more engaging and fun!

We will watch one video together. Then you will watch at least two more. Then answer the above questions. 
You may also look up other videos if you'd like. Learn as much as you can about the topic.

Write a well-developed response. Make it thoughtful. One well-constructed paragraph will be sufficient.

Write a 10 plus sentence reaction. (I'm not going to count your sentences, but make your response thoughtful and reflection.)

Which one stands out to you the most? 


What are you most curious about in terms of Chanel Miller and her memoir, KNOW MY NAME. 


The above questions are simply jumping off points. You can write your reflection however you'd like. I just want you to have a place to start if you can't think of one.

Consent: What is it? When and how should it be communicated? 
Physical/sexual assault 
Why don't victims of assault report? 


Choose one of more and write a reflection.

Write your reflections after watching the interview.

Write it in the discussion. Include the title and author/writer/speaker/artist.

Your enrichment will be due on Saturday, March 13, 2021

Please watch and then read the transcript of Amanda Gorman's Inaugural poem today. Then write your reflection about it. What stands out to you? What inspires you? What do you now know that you did not know before watching/reading her poem?

Read and annotate the article of the week using dochub.

Using MLA, write your 1 to 2 page response using the prompts at the end of the article.

Choose 4 of the 7 passages on the chart to analyze this week.

Of course you can complete all 7, but I'm mindful that you also have an AOW to complete this week as well.

In the discussion post, add what you will read, watch, or listen to this month. Add a comment about why you chose it. Please include full titles and authors/speakers/artists so that your classmates may be inspired too.

Don't worry about the multiple choice items being wrong. It's my fault. I tried to make both answers correct, but I think that Edpuzzle did not allow me to do that. I'm still learning how to use it.

1. Watch the ted talk on intersectionality.
2. Read the examples of social identity handout.
3. Fill out the social identity chart using the examples as a reference guide.
4. Write a one page reflective response that answers one of the two questions below
-Which identity has the greatest effect on how YOU see yourself and why?
-Which identity has the greatest effect on how OTHERS see you (whether positively or negatively) and why? (USE MLA formatting.)
*Be prepared to share! BUT You only have to share what you are COMFORTABLE with.

Monthly Individual Enrichment Experiences Via Books, Podcasts, and Documentaries/Films

Each month you will choose an outside enrichment experience. You may choose all books if you would prefer, but you may not choose all podcasts or all documentaries/films.

Due dates

October 2nd
October 30th
November 30th
December 18th
January 29th
February 26th
March 26th
April 29th
May 21st

This totals 9 enrichment experiences.

You MUST read a minimum of 3 books.


When you choose a podcast, you must listen to a minimum of 6 episodes. You will write a review of the podcast series.

When you choose a film, your review will be longer and multi-faceted. For example, you will focus on plot, theme, character development, musical score, cinematography, special effects, social commentary, etc.

For books, you will write a literary analysis based on one or more of the following: character, theme, historical context, social commentary, etc.

More specific instructions for each type of enrichment are forthcoming.


For now, you may want to create a Google Doc, copy the due dates and begin filling in the titles you wish to explore. You can always change your mind, but it’s good to get started on a plan.

Turn in your plan to me by Friday, September 4th.

If you want to choose titles not on the list, please just run them by me first.

As we move through these enrichment experiences, you will also create a photo board. See attached. Make a copy and rename it.

We will watch the Ted Talk together.

Open the Google Doc. Rename it with your name. Type directly on it. You can adjust the lines or just delete them and type your responses in the blank space between questions.

If you need to rewatch the Ted Talk on your own to help you better respond to the questions, please do.

Listen to the talk.

Create your own poem. You may use one of the two provided templates or you may veer off from it. Make a copy of the file and rename it. When you are done upload it as a Google Doc.

Open the AOW link.
Click on the article.
Use the Chrome DocHub extension to open the article so you can annotate it.
Save your annotated copy so you can turn it back in as a "marked up" copy.
Write your one page reflection in a new Google Doc.
Use MLA formatting. (Look this up if you cannot recall how to do it.)
Turn in BOTH your annotated text and your MLA formatted reflection.

You will do one of these per week. All four must be completed for credit.
You will choose one of the 4 at the end of each month that I will fully grade.

Today, DURING OUR CLASS TIME, you will each visit all of the videos on the Distance Learning Bingo Card.
When you are finished, please respond to all of the reflection questions in a Google Doc. Then turn it in.

Then reply to one of your classmates.

Make sure to write in COMPLETE sentences. This is an academic class. NO texting abbreviations.

Add the titles of three songs that give you HOPE. These will be your Anthem Playlist. Remember these need to be songs that uplift you! I've included mine below. You only need titles and artists, but please include a one sentence explanation for each about why the song inspires you.

Hi there. I thought this activity might be a fun way to get to know each other. You'll complete your virtual locker and then share it in a small group via ZOOM break out room. Then if there are some who want to share with the whole class, we'll do that too.

RENAME the file with your FIRST and LAST name. Then you can create your own locker.

Attached is a copy of the syllabus.
Also attached is a copy of the final page where you can type in yours and your guardians' name(s). Rename the Google Slide file. Add your "signature." (Typing your name will suffice.)
