Part 1: Which philosopher do you side with: Hobbes or Locke's view on people and the "state of nature"? Are people naturally bad or good?
Hobbes- (naturally bad)
Thomas Hobbes outlined his ideas in a work titled Leviathan. In it he argued that people were naturally cruel, greedy, and selfish. If not strictly controlled, they would fight, rob, and oppress one another. Life in the "state of nature"--without laws or other control--would be "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish. (“war . . . of every man against every man”)
Locke- (naturally good--reasonable and moral)
John Locke held a different, more positive view of human nature. He thought people were basically reasonable and moral. He believed that people could learn from experience and improve themselves. As reasonable beings, they had the natural ability to govern their own affairs and to look after the welfare of society.

There is no right or wrong answer for this question. This question is to help stimulate your thinking.
1) Take 5 minutes to respond to this prompt. Don't worry about grammar. I make all kinds of mistakes when I do quick writes. (Especially when I'm responding to your work. Sometimes I type so fast or I leave out words, but I know I said it in my head as I'm typing) Point is, this is not an essay where you get to proofread.
2) Respond to 2 other people not in group; however, make sure everyone gets at least one response.
---please be positive and constructive. Point out their good ideas or if you have a suggestion, kindly make it. If you don't have anything nice to say, please don't. Thank you.
