Attention: EASY 20 POINTS ONLY AFTER you have read the instructions and looked over the attached document, simply type your first and last name into the response box and then submit. You must follow instructions and if you do not do this correctly, you will not receive credit. This assignment is due by the end of class time TODAY. If late, you will receive only half credit.
Hi Everyone,
Now that we are back for semester 2, it looks like some of you have forgotten some of our norms and guidelines for the class. Please take note of the following to ensure a smoother class experience for all of us. If you have questions or concerns, or if you need help, please feel free to contact me through email or stay on Zoom after a workout to ask questions. I want to be helpful, but I cannot help you if I don't know what is going on.
1. You will have one assignment due for EVERY TIME we meet for this class. It is due on the same day and unless we make a specific arrangement, I will not be accepting late work. These assignments are meant to track your attendance and engagement for THAT day. You are responsible for checking the Google Classroom page and completing work before the deadline.
2. If you need to contact me, you can email me at [email protected]. This is different from my regular AUSD email that I use for general school related business. When you send an email, please use the subject line format: First Name Last Name, Period, Email Topic. This makes it much easier for me to stay organized, keep track of emails, and find your information quickly to assist you better.
3. There is a class workout that takes place over Zoom during every class session. Live participation for PE is the normal expectation as it would be with in person schooling. Students are expected to stay and participate by default. Students who stay and exercise on camera for both sessions every week do not have to fill out a workout log and will receive full credit for that week. Speaking of workout logs...
4. A few reminders regarding the workout logs:
- There is a proper way to answer the questions and there are certain types of information that I am looking for. Please see the workout log sample I have attached.
- Workout logs are a secondary alternative to in-class workouts. This is why there are actual requirements and real effort must be given to earn full credit. You do not get points just for turning in your logs.
- Each logged day is worth 5 points and you must log 3 days to earn the full 15 points for each week.
- You only need to turn in the log ONE time when you have completed three days for the week. However, I do look at the edit history and you are NOT allowed to fill out all three logs in one day (to discourage waiting until the last minute and making things up). We are trying to make up for the lost activity time that you would normally be a part of throughout the week. Therefore, you must choose activities throughout the week and record them as they happen.
5. Please take your time and pay attention to the QUALITY of ALL your work. This is not English class so I am not checking for grammar. However, a lack of capitalization, frequent spelling errors, and missing punctuation are indicators of a lack of effort. If your work is organized in a way that makes it difficult to grade or all of your answer text is identical to the format of the question you will also be penalized. Please be considerate to all of your teachers who have to look through and grade all of your work.
6. Please check your assignments on Google Classroom BEFORE emailing me to ask about your grade. It is possible that I made comments, corrections, suggestions and returned your work without giving you a grade. If you do not fix the issues and resubmit, I will not know to grade your assignment and it will not be entered into the gradebook.
7. If you happen to reach out to me with an email or comment on your assignments, please remember that I am only human, I have a life outside of teaching, and will be helping to take care of a newborn at home for most of semester 2. Please do not expect me to respond immediately, please do not start an interaction by accusing me of doing something to harm your grades, and please remember that I cannot help you if you do not take the time to properly communicate the right information to me.
8. From now until the rest of the semester, I am assuming that you have read this post AND that you are responsible enough to read all updated information that I share with you on Google Classroom. By receiving credit for this assignment, you are agreeing that you are accountable to all information that I have made available to you regarding this class.

Due:
1. Generally speaking, did you eat better, worse, or the same as usual during winter break? Explain (How do you know? What do you think is the reason?) 2. Generally speaking, were you more or less physically active (or about the same) during winter break? Explain (How do you know? What do you think is the reason?)
- Answer the questions using complete sentences.
- Make sure to use proper capitalization and spelling. Take the time to make your work presentable.
Example:
1. My eating habits were about the same over winter break. Since we are locked down from Covid and everyone is staying home, our eating habits do not really change based on my work schedule. One exception is we went to McDonald's several times more than we would have because of deals in the app. We had also recently adjusted our diets anyway because of the doctor's recommendations.
2. I was significantly more active during winter break. I was able to exercise every day for longer periods of time and I was more successful reaching the goals determined by my Apple Watch. I was even able to squeeze in a few runs and go out for an extra walk on several days. The change was probably due to having significantly more free time. Not having to teach or grade for two weeks really makes a difference in my schedule to focus on staying healthy.

If you have read all the instructions for the final project and recognize that you are responsible for asking about anything you don't understand, type "Yes".
Due:
In a complete sentence, make a prediction about what you are going to discover while working on your final project.
Due:
1. I've simplified the log again. We're moving from Forms back to Google Docs because of cheating issues.
2. You only need to submit one time when you complete all three columns for the week.
3. You still need to fill out each section on different days. If you fill out the whole log on Friday night, I will see this on the edit history and you will not receive full credit. Fill each column out on the day you perform the activity.
4. Sample under "Classwork" has been updated if you need help filling out the form.

- Highlighted Nutrients
IMPORTANT: A screenshot is NOT a picture of your monitor that you took with your phone. See the link below if you need help with screenshots. If you submit an improper screenshot, points may be subtracted from your grade.
4. Submit screenshot (See sample). You do not need to edit your screenshot in any way, I just circled everything for clarity.
Any work submitted after 12/4 (Friday) will receive partial credit. Any work submitted after 12/6 (Sunday) will receive a ZERO.

Hi everyone. Here are a few reminders if you would like to receive full credit for this assignment:
1. The DESCRIPTION needs to include detailed INFORMATION about the activity. "I walked at the park." does not help me to understand your activity.
2. The REFLECTION needs to include your thoughts and feelings about the workout and your level of fitness.
3. Do not get the DESCRIPTION and REFLECTION mixed up.
4. Spelling and capitalization matter. I take the time to read your work. Take your time and fill it out carefully.
5. If I have any reason to question the integrity of your work, I may take away partial credit or even give you a zero on the ENTIRE assignment for the week.
6. ONE submission a day. No late work without special permission.

A few changes/reminders:
First, a workout I can see is worth more to me than a workout that you tell me about.
1. Total points for the week now total 15.
2. A Zoom workout is worth 7.5 points (two will give you full credit for the week).
3. A filled out log is worth 5 points (THREE full credit forms will give you full credit for the week).
Please make your activities substantial. Doing a set of pushups isn't going to cut it anymore. You really should be doing vigorous activity for at least 15-20 minutes each time. I will be flexible with something like an intense 7 minute HIIT workout but submit at your own risk.
Many of you still aren't taking the time to fill things out properly. You must do so if you would like to receive full credit.
As a reminder:

Physical Activity (10/12 - 10/16) PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS WEEK'S UPDATES TO THE ASSIGNMENT
This week, we will try to do this assignment with a little more flexibility. You still need to have two days' worth of logged activities (one for each day we meet for class) but you will have the option to submit work throughout the week and not just on the days that we meet. Yes, you will have to fill out and submit the form two separate times. You can also participate over Zoom one day and submit a form for another day as long as it adds up to two logged activities for the week.
The most straightforward way to earn points is still by joining in the class workout over Zoom. Again, if you stay on camera and workout, you do not need to submit anything. Your score will be entered in automatically by me.
If you must earn your points by submitting a log, please remember that joining the class should be the default method of participation. Logs should be accurate and will be looked at in detail. Careless errors, insufficient information, and answers that don't make sense will cost you points.
There is technically only one assignment on Google Classroom. This means that after you complete your first activity, your grade will display as incomplete (example: 5/10) on Google Classroom, until your second activity grade is added in. Only your final grade for the week will go into the gradebook.

Hi everyone, after trying the Google Form version of the assignment, I've decided that it is a lot more difficult and far less efficient to sort through your responses. I am going to have you submit your log in this document format rather than through Google Forms. If you have a copy of your responses, it should be simple to copy the information over. If you already submitted the form but do not have a copy of your responses, please email me and I will help you. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Due:
1. Set one LONG term physical FITNESS goal.
2. Set one short OR long term physical ACTIVITY goal.
What is reasonable for each person will be different but each goal must be:
1. Specific (Clear)
2. Measurable (Easy to determine success)
3. Time Based (Needs to have an end point)
Please LABEL each goal clearly. It helps if your physical activity goal moves you toward your fitness goal.
For example:
1. My long term physical fitness goal is to run a mile in under 8 minutes within the next 12 months.
2. My long term physical activity goal is to run a mile twice a week for the next 12 months.

1b. Do 50 burpees for time
2. As many burpees as possible in 7 minutes (AMRAP)

Please complete this workout and fill out a log entry. See updated definitions list (look for High Intensity Interval Training). Because HIIT requires full intensity on each set, only use the version of an exercise that you can do properly. There is nothing wrong with doing knee-pushups or holding on to something while doing squats if that's what you need to help you get stronger and improve your form.

Hi Everyone, please LOOK OVER THE SAMPLE CLOSELY. Follow the format EXACTLY as you see it and use my sample as a guide for what and how much to write (including numbering in the workout details). I will deduct points for deviating from the format and for lazy writing. We are practicing filling out the log so that in the future, it will go a lot smoother when I give you the opportunity to select your own workouts.
- All responses should be in the right side column
- The complete sentences rule only applies to the last two questions.
- Unless you are doing TABATA, the number of reps should be included
- When you do an exercise for time, you should also be recording the seconds, not just minutes
- Please DELETE my typing in the answer column after you have entered your own responses.
Please look over the old assignments to review exercise forms and select one of the following workouts. I will list them in order of difficulty (easiest to hardest in my opinion).
Your options are:
1. 25 pushups, 50 squats, 75 crunches - For Time
2. 10 pushups, 20 squats, 30 crunches - As Many Rounds As Possible (AMRAP) in 7 minutes
3. TABATA (20 seconds on --> 10 seconds break x 8 rounds) - Rotate through pushups, squats, crunches
Example:
Pushups - 20 seconds
Rest - 10 seconds
Squats - 20 seconds
Rest - 10 Seconds
Crunches - 20 seconds
Rest - 10 seconds
x8 (This one takes 12 minutes instead of 4 because there are three different exercises)
REMINDER: I know this is not an English class but you should still be taking the time to carefully put together your written responses. I'm not asking for a lot of writing so you should have the time to:
1. Write in complete sentences (when applicable)
2. Capitalize properly
3. Spell words correctly. You are being asked to write several sentences on your computer while connected to the most powerful spellchecker in the world (the internet).
OPTIONAL: If you would like me to check on any exercise form, feel free to submit a video along with your assignment and I will take a look (free of charge!).

For today, use PUSH-UPS as your exercise and pick one of the formats we discussed in class. Use these numbers for whichever option you pick.
AMRAP - Since this is just push-ups there aren't really rounds, just reps. See how many you can do with decent form in 7 minutes
EMOM - 5 pushups per minute for 7 minutes
For Time - How long does it take you to do 50 (30 if you're struggling)?
Tabata - 20 seconds on, 10 seconds rest. There are no sets or reps for TABATA. You just go full intensity during each 20 second period.

Here are the instructions for your assignment. I've attached the video that we watched during class. NOTE THE DUE DATE. Late work will NOT receive full credit.
1. Rewatch the video and pay attention to her pointers (arm positioning, stable core, no sagging, no butt in the air, etc...)
2. Determine which method you need to use (regular push-up, knees, chair)
3. Get in front of a mirror or use the front camera on your phone to work on your technique.
4. Submit a video of yourself executing one push-up with proper form
- The video should be taken from the side so that your technique is clearly visible.
- It might help to describe the details of what you are trying to do correctly as you set up and execute the push-up. This shows me that you are making an effort to follow the instructions. (Helpful but NOT required)
- A second push-up might also be helpful if it gives you more opportunity to show what you are trying to do.
5. You will be graded on your execution, effort, and attention to detail.
- It's normal to need corrections, so just do your best.
- You will lose points if you do not demonstrate a reasonable attempt to follow the instructions in the video
