Your task is to write and illustrate a storybook in which the protagonist learns about a key aspect of a major religion. See the attached instructions for details, and the attached link for an example of what can be created using StoryJumper's tools. Be sure to use the free resources available through our school's library when you conduct your research -- they can be quite useful in this situation. When you submit your assignment, post one link to your storybook in the private comments section and another link in the class comments section. This way, I can easily locate your storybook and your peers can read your story as well.
1. Read one of your peers' storybooks.

2. Next, in MLA format, type a half-page reflection on a Google Doc, explaining what you thought the author did well and what you thought they could have improved, and why. Then, speculate how this book may impact a child's understanding and perception of the world religion the storybook explores. Be sure to identify the author of the storybook and their topic.

3. Repeat steps one and two for someone else's storybook. This portion of the assignment should be at least a half-page page.

4. Next, type a one-page reflection about your research and story. Consider the following questions to help guide your thinking, though you may answer other questions related to your reflection instead:

-What was the most significant challenge you faced as you conducted your research and wrote your story, and why? Did you overcome that challenge? If so, how so? If not, why not?
-If you had more time, in what ways would you further improve your story, and why?
-What are your strengths or weaknesses as a storyteller and a researcher, and how did these strengths or weaknesses help or hinder you throughout this assignment?
-What was your favorite or least favorite part of this assignment? Why?
-Why did you choose to write the story that you wrote? What about it appealed to you?
-Would others be interested in reading your story? Why or why not?

5. Altogether, your assignment must be typed in MLA format, must be at least two pages long, and must be submitted by the end of the class period. A Works Cited page does not need to be included with this assignment.
1. Research a primal religion of your choice and learn about that religion's people, their customs, myths, and beliefs.

2. Next, use all that you learned from your research to create a colorful and catchy full-page advertisement for that primal religion. The advertisement can be drawn by hand or created using digital tools.

3. In a half page, share what you learned from your research, and then explain how that information influenced the way you designed the primal religion's advertisement.

4. Your work must be in MLA format, but a Works Cited page is not required. The quality and depth of your work will determine the score your assignment receives. As usual, go beyond the obvious.
1. Using the internet, research two historical religious figures: one from an Eastern culture, and one from an era that preceded Jesus'. These religious figures must not have been mentioned in the parts of Smith's book we've read so far. Paraphrase your findings from the internet. This portion of the assignment should be at least a half page.

2. Next, identify and analyze what Jesus and the two historical religious figures you researched have in common with one another. This portion of the assignment should be at least one page. Continue to paraphrase as you compare all three people.

3. You must research at least two credible sources. Smith's book does not count. In order to give credit where credit is due, include in-text citations every time you paraphrase information from one of your sources. This will help distinguish your own commentary from that of the sources you researched.

4. Your work must be 1.5 pages (minimum), typed in MLA format, and include a Works Cited page. Please look at the MLA format resources I reposted earlier this semester if you need to review.
Imagine civilization has been destroyed and that the human survivors turn once more to religion in the absence of scientific knowledge. In your opinion, what would a primal religion in post-apocalyptic North America look like? Which animals or natural elements would be venerated, and which would be feared? Why? Make an educated guess about the kinds of rituals, traditions, and taboos that would emerge from this new primal religion.
From the video: "Jesus’s point is that the surest way to be kind is not to take pride in never having done a particular species of wrong. It lies in seeing that, inevitably, we too have been foolish and cruel at other moments, and in using that knowledge to foster compassion towards those whom it lies in our powers to ‘stone.’"

What are your thoughts about the aforementioned idea? Do you agree or disagree with it? Why? Briefly describe a time in your life or in someone else's when this principle was applicable.
The Jewish people, as you've read, have found meaning in a variety of ways: through god, creation, human existence, history, morality, justice, suffering, and messianism - to name a few. Their passion for meaning is one of their defining characteristics, but it is not exclusive.

1. Contemplate and explain the ways in which you find meaning, and then discuss how those sources of meaning affect various aspects of your life.

2. Your paper must be at least one page, and it must be typed in MLA format. A Works Cited page does not need to be included.

3. Now that you've finished reading and studying Night, you will further your understanding of the Holocaust and its many victims by reading the coming-of-age story of one of the thirteen holocaust survivors featured on the linked website. It’s up to you to decide whose story you’re going to read, but each one is told in only five chapters, chronicling that person’s life before, during, and after the holocaust. Be sure to watch the accompanying YouTube videos for greater insight into that person’s experiences.

After reading Night and the story of one of the survivors of your choice, you will use the free tools provided by Adobe Spark (also linked below) to create a symbolic collage. The collage must symbolize both Eliezer’s life and the life of the survivor whose story you read. At minimum, the collage must feature ten symbols: five for Elie and five for the other person. The symbols you include must signify some important aspect of that person’s character or life experience. Experiment with all the Adobe Spark tools at your disposal to enliven your work.

Once your collage is complete, you must then record a Zoom video ( roughly 5-10 minutes) and fully address the following topics in the order listed:

1) Symbols: For each symbol, identify to whom it is related, what it represents, and its significance to that person’s character or life experience.

2) Differences and Similarities: Demonstrate your understanding of Wiesel’s story and the story of the other person by articulating key differences and similarities between the two people. Detail at least four differences and four similarities.

3) The Moral: Explain what you believe is the most important lesson Night imparts to its readers, and why; do the same for the other person's story. Defend all your opinions with textual evidence.

Upload two links to this assignment post: One for your Zoom presentation, and one for your symbolic collage.
