Mrs. Debra Chan

Welcome to our class website! I hope you find the website helpful! Get information about class agendas, homework assignments, and due dates here. Also, I've included links to various resources to help you succeed. I look forward to studying English with you this year!

Mission for the Class:

I teach in the hopes that I'm preparing students for the "real world." Sometimes, students may feel that what I teach on a day-to-day basis has no relevance to everyday life, but I want to assure my students that I'm training them to think critically, communicate effectively, and present oneself positively so that they may play important roles in the world in which we live. I hold high expectations for my students to be responsible and attain greatness.

About Mrs. Chan...

I've been teaching at Mark Keppel High School for the last eleven years. I also graduated as an Aztec! I earned my B.A. in English at UCLA and my teaching credential as well as M.A. in English at Cal State L.A. I love my job because I love my students, their parents, and my coworkers. It's a great community!

I think the most significant change in my life recently is that I became a mom! It's been a fun, tiring, scary, and rewarding transition in my life. I love my family.

My hobbies include cooking and baking (but who has time for that now?), shopping, spending time with family and friends, and reading. Actually, I also like to clean. When I feel stressed, the first thing I do is organize! My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen but the most important book in my life is the Holy Bible.

I like to think that I'm very approachable, so please come and see me for anything you need!
